Sketch for Jumping Man

This is a sketch for a big painting which I call Jumping Man. This painting is still in progress.  The image I found on the internet.  I don't have the space to let men jump so freely.   I like the image very much. It  resembles for me a kind of lightness and freedom. This small painting is done on a commercial canvas but with handmade oilpaint.  Measure 40 cm x 50 cm.

Musing

Small drawing, 9 cm by 13 cm, after am image I found in pinterest.  The frame is guilded by me with goldleave and covered with a patina and a varnish.  I recently started to do more guilding to be able to incorporate goldleave into paintings.
In Münster around the  end of July 2014 there was one evening where an awfull lot of rain poured down on the city. That evening I was in Handorf. A lot of water damage was seen in the days after.   Basements had been flooded and all the stuff in it was lost.  In de weeks after people could put there water damaged goods on the streets and it would be collected.  And by one of these was this little picture frame lying with its glass still intact and luckely it was not damaged by the water. But the frame looked awfull.  It was painted with a dirty green.  I sandpapered it and put a bollus on it on which I could lay the goldleave. And now it looks as new... with a drawing of my own.  A silent reminder of that evening.

Handorfer Landschaft

Handorf is a small village about 8 kilometers outside Münster. Not flat but slightly undulating landscape. It is a wonderful area for cycling. On a sunny day, after the harvest, the mowed fields with their yellow-colored residue are showing a beautiful color contrasts with the environment ...
Measures   55 cm x 65 cm, linen with handmade paints.

Spirit of Chaos

After the Creditcrisis also the construction businesses where in deep trouble. A lot of smaller Firms went bancrupt...   Also a company I knew.  This inspired me for this painting where a great disorder is shown.
Measures 115 cm x 85 cm, linen with handmade paint.

Drawings

It has been a long time but in Münster I was recently able to go into a drawing class with a live model.  During my time in Den Haag I have done a lot of model drawing.
And here are two drawings I did at home.

Portrait of F.

Recently I made a portrait of  F. This painting belongs also to the Serie 2012MEN.  The basis was a photo of a series that I made with him. It's been outside shots. Of those I have taken the most striking picture ...
Structure of the painting. The linen cloth I primed with my own recipe. Then added a colored base coat tempera ... On which I could start  the underpainting.

All paint is handmade. It takes time to do this and it slowed the work. At the same time it has its own rules into the way how one is working. I would say it is not as smooth as modern paints will allow. A major difference is that the homemade paint for each color has  its own creamy  composition or roughness .... Or whatever one will call this. While all modern paints are mostly an identical substance with identical creaminess ...

Another thing is that I stayed out of the deepest dark for as long as possible..  this way I can always go darker if the painting asks for it….

The painting is  55cm x 65 cm.

Waterlilies

Also in the Arboretum Neuenkoop near Brake in Germany I found a small pool which was decorated in an Italianstyle. With terracotta, ocre and blue colors. Waterlilies were floating in the pool. I just had to take a few pictures. The paintings are on a wooden panel with handmade oilcolors. Measures are 30 cm x 40 cm.

Portrait of M.

This is a portrait of M. During a visit in an Arboretum Neuenkoop near Brake near Bremen, I could take the picture above. Because M. is a large plant lover and works with plants, he embraced here a beautiful young Sequoia. The light and shadows are pure chance. But the richness of it has encouraged me to this portrait ... ..

This is a painting on a wooden panel. This panel  includes a primer that I had somewhat isolated. Here upon I set  a monochome oil underpainting in a blue-gray color. The overpainting is done in oil and topped with glaces.

Here is the underpainting just when I started the top layer....  Measures 30 cm x 40 cm.

An earlier portrait I painted of M. is depicted here. Of the two paintings only this one belongs to the Serie 2012MEN.    It is painted on a wooden panel.

This portret belongs to the Serie  2012MEN.  It is painted on linen with handmade oilpaint. I finished it in 2013.

3 APPLES

Saterday and Sunday (9 and 30 november)  I did a study on Apples. It was in the VHS in Münster and the teacher was Klaus Geigle an artist from Münster.  In this case to make work easy, I worked with commercial oil paints on a commercial canvas.

On the second day I concentrated me on one apple.  It is a very good tool to watch colors through a peephole when one is unsure about what tone of color one is looking at..
Both paintings are 40 x 50 cm.
